Don't use public transport - or your car?

Lockdown Day 53 - total deaths: 33,614. Deaths yesterday (14th of May): 428.
Let's start with the positive today - for the first time since May 1st the government has reached the quota it promised so long ago of 100,000 tests daily.
Unfortunately the confusion across the country continues. Today Downing Street announced that congestion charges will not only be back for those commuting into London - but they will be increased. Now I am not against the congestion charge, but it strikes me as confusing, impractical and backwards to make this move now. In Boris' speech just 5 days ago, our PM said avoid public transport where possible, but go back to work where possible. So many people from across the country commute into London daily for work - but they are encouraged not to drive or get the train? Perhaps we'll see a stream of white collar workers cycling down the M1 on Brompton bikes?
Today the debate surrounding the reopening of schools. The government has been accused of providing no guidance in how this is going to work on the 1st of June. Teachers' Unions have called for scientific evidence to prove the safety of such a move and questioned why Boris decided on this date - other than the fact it is the first of the month. I couldn't agree more, and also encourage the government to provide the public with all the data they can on the virus, rather than giving wishy-washy jingoistic speeches about the resolve of the people...
Finally the government announced that they would be providing an extra £600m for testing in care homes. Let's hope they don't buy faulty equipment this time.
